It may be necessary to add some supplements to your horses diet. Improved hoof health is observed in some horses after putting them on a diet with levels of biotin and methionine. To promote the health and growth of keratin and other connective tissue, Biotin is a best vitamin. An emino acid is important for the growth of healthy hooves and it is known as methionine. To keep the hoof healthy, products that are high in zinc and copper can also be useful. It is as well necessary to keep in mind that except you are riding your horse regularly or in coarse territory, there is no requirement to put on shoes. Several horse can do very good without shoes at all, and no of times horses who have had shoes on for long time may take a break from them for a period of months only to relax the hoof.

Some other supplements to take care of hoof are there like Manganese, Selenium, Iodine, Lysine, Threonine and B vitamins. The hoof wall is a fingernail of the horse foot which grows very slowly at a rate of three eight to one half inch per month. For healthy tissue to reach the bottom of the hoof, almost a year is required hence any supplements can take weeks or months to produce any effect on the hoof.
