Building a Chicken hut
Building an affordable chicken hut is the best idea you can make also buy a pre-built coop as many of the chicken’s coop are assembled. So before running to purchase the chicks of your choice, it is necessary to build a cage or hut for your coops so that they can be protected. Building a coop hut is not an easy task, first you need to take into account the size of the chickens to occupy the space so that the chickens should remain healthy also it is important to look about the materials you are using that can have access ventilation, lightning, position, nesting and also protections from the animals.
Choose the best location for chicken hut, first consider the size of the chicken so that you can get the idea of how much space will be required generally four square feet space is require for each chicken. If you have 15 to 20 chickens you may required 80 square feet space, so that there will be enough vents for the chickens. If you do not want your chickens to be crammed in the hut or reducing their life expectancy, build a chicken coop that should have enough space for the chickens to ensure their healthy life. You can also plan to keep the chicken hut in the backyard so to keep it from outward appearance.
The type of coop you are building should be of good material and can have the protection from the predators such raccoons, foxes, skunks, cats domestic or either wild animals. Also you have to consider environmental factors such as wind, rain, and cold that will be hazardous for the chicken’s health you surely do not want these natural calamities should come through the vents, so try to make an enclosed area that will keep them protected as well as keep them from wandering away.
If you are making plan for harvesting eggs from your chickens then you have to give attention because chickens require more light to lay eggs, if there are not sufficient lights you cannot expect productive eggs. The best is to keep excessive light for good results. You also have to keep in mind about future expansion, if later in the future you may want to raise the chickens in the coop.
Keep the enough space for the chickens to move around in the coop and cleaning and gathering eggs, keep the floor covered from suitable wood and ensure that cleanliness keeps the chickens from ingesting their own dropping, always keep in mind need extra space for scratching and digging for bugs so for best results keep roughly twice space for the chickens to roam in the coop.
Considering the above points and many other things will help you to build a perfect house for the chickens. However you may plan to keep it in the backyard or in the front side of the home whatever the style and the design you are planning just make sure that it will be best suited for you and the chickens to keep them happy and healthy and safe.
